The 2nd WORST Thing I Ate at Harry Potter World | Butterbeer Fudge

It was my first time in the Harry Potter world (AKA The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando), and I was SOO excited for ALL the things. I wanted to take in the scenery, explore the shops, see the dragon breathe fire . . . but most importantly I wanted to try all the food! Of COURSE I had to stop by Honeydukes for all the classic treats like a cauldron cake and a ginger newt, but you can’t forget all the different types of BUTTERBEER! I wanted to try Honeydukes Butterbeer Fudge, but things did not go as planned.

Rather unfortunately for me, the Butterbeer Fudge ended up being one of the worst things that I tried in the wizarding world (topped only by the Pumpkin Pasty!). The fudge was too thick, gritty, and only tasted mildly of white chocolate and mostly just tasted like “sweet”. I KNEW I could make something a thousand times better . . . so I did!

The Butterbeer Fudge in the parks was grainy and had almost no flavor in addition to being overly sweet. This treat gets a 1.5 / 5 stars. We recommend avoiding this one!

A Spell of Knowledge: Quick Fudge vs Real Fudge vs Cornelius Fudge

Real fudge is a sugar confection that involves the science of sugar crystals and the use of candy thermometers. Sometimes you have time (and patience) for that sort of thing, and sometimes you don’t! While real fudge tends to last longer, our Quick Butterbeer Fudge Recipe can be made with 5 main ingredients in under 3 minutes! You’ll get a fudge that is better than you’ll get in Harry Potter World, with a ton more flavor! This recipe is creamy, buttery, and full of butterscotch and caramel-y flavors. The best part? It’s practically fool-proof! It’s definitely fit to serve to the Minister of Magic (AKA Cornelius Fudge).

ButterBeer Fudge Recipe Essentials: Ingredients

Quick and Easy Microwave Fudge:

  1. White Chocolate Chips
  2. Butterscotch Chips
  3. Sweetened Condensed Milk
  4. Butter
  5. Salt
  6. Optional: vanilla extract, butter flavor, rum extract, or cream soda flavoring

These ingredients may seem simple, but you’ll end up with something far more flavorful than Honeydukes Butterbeer Fudge!

Equip Your Kitchen: Magical Tools for the Perfect Brew

With a sprinkle of magic some of the links here are charmed to conjure a small commission for me when you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you! But don’t worry, we only endorse products that have tested and used!

  • Microwave-Safe Bowl: While you can technically microwave things in plastic bowls, some part of that just feels wrong. Personally we use the Superior Glass Mixing Bowl Set with Lids in our kitchen, and we love them! They are easy to clean, easy to store, and are inexpensive (with great reviews)!
  • Silicone Spatula: You can use whatever spatula you have on hand to stir the fudge, but if you’re looking for a good silicone spatula set the Cooptop Silicone Spatula Set from Amazon is amazing! Easy to clean, and high temp resistant, we love these ones.
  • 8 X 8 inch Fudge Pan: Again, any 8×8 pan you have on hand will work just fine, but the straight sides of the Wilton 8×8 Baking Set Pans keeps your fudge looking nice an neat!
  • Parchment paper: You’ll need both parchment and cooking spray to help keep your fudge from sticking to your pan. Whatever parchment paper you have will work and you can always cut it to size. Personally, I prefer the precut sheets of parchment paper.

The Spell of Creation: Brewing Your Butterbeer Fudge

Microwave Method:

  1. Prepare Your Pan: Lightly spray your fudge pan with cooking spray so that parchment paper will stick to it. Place one sheet of parchment in, covering the top and bottom sides, and then place the second parchment paper sheet in, covering the left and right sides. Take a teaspoon of butter and rub it all over the inside of your parchment paper liner so your fudge won’t stick..
  2. Heat It Up: – Make the top! In your microwave-safe bowl, combine white chocolate chips and sweetened condensed milk and heat for one minute on high. Stir until all the chocolate chips are melted. If needed, microwave in additional 30 second intervals to achieve this. Melt the butter separately and mix in. If desired, add some butter flavor and vanilla extract and mix in at this point. Pour into your prepared pan, and smooth out as evenly as you can. This step is optional if you want the “traditional” look for butterbeer fudge.
  3. Heat It Up: – ButterBeer Fudge! In your microwave-safe bowl, combine butterscotch chips and sweetened condensed milk and heat for one minute on high. Stir until all the chips are melted. If needed, microwave in additional 30 second intervals to achieve this. Melt the butter separately and mix in. If desired, add 1/4 tsp each of butter flavor, rum extract, vanilla, and cream soda flavoring and mix in at this point. Pour gently into your prepared pan, on top of the white chocolate fudge, and smooth out as evenly as you can.
  4. Cool and Cut: Place your freshly brewed fudge into the fridge for at least two hours before cutting. Then, cut into 1 inch squares and enjoy!
