Pizza Skull Recipe | How to Make Amazing HHN Food #pizzaskulls

As moonlight dances on gravestones and eerie whispers fill the night, we realize it is once again spooky season! Today we summon forth the deliciously creepy Pizza Skulls from Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights! Whether it’s HHN or just an evening beside Kong Skull Island, each Pizza Skull is a treasure trove of flavors. Each one houses molten cheese, zesty pepperoni, and a hauntingly delicious pizza sauce, all encased within a crispy, golden-brown crust. It’s a symphony of flavors that’ll have you screaming—for more!

Pizza Skull from HHN: While the Pizza skulls from HHN have been, and frequently are delicious, they often lack consistency. Sometimes they are GREAT, and sometimes they are undercooked and doughy. Additionally, we felt the sauce left a little to be desired, and needed more flavor. We give the Pizza Skull an official rating of 4/5 stars, but don’t fret! With the Best Ever Pizza Sauce, the Pizza Skulls you make at home will be 5/5!

Go Gravedigging: Gather your Ingredients

To make our devilishly delightful Pizza Skulls, you’ll need the following Ingredients & Components:

1/4 Recipe of Sourdough Pizza Dough from Joshua Weissman

1/2 Recipe of Pizza Sauce (or make a full recipe and save the rest to make Louie’s Pizza!)

6 oz Deli Sliced Provolone Cheese

3 oz Shredded Parmesan Cheese

6 oz Shredded Mozzarella Cheese

16 oz package of pepperoni

*Please note: how much you use of these ingredients is entirely up to you! You can double up on the cheese, or triple the pepperoni! As long as the filing fits inside the mold, you are good to go.

Equip Your Kitchen: The Lair of Creation

To craft these delicacies that are a scream, ensure your kitchen is armed with the correct tool of darkness:

  • Skull Baking Pan: To give your pizza skulls their shape, procure the Nordic Ware Haunted Skull Cakelet Pan from Amazon. This vessel will mold your creations into the perfect mini skulls!

Descend into Darkness: Assemble your Pizza Skulls

1. Prepare the Dough

In the haunted shadows of your kitchen, mix and knead your pizza dough till it’s soft and pliable. Be sure to follow all directions on Joshua Weissman’s site. *Note: As it is a sourdough pizza crust, this is best made the day before. You CAN make it day of, but make sure you make it early in the day so it is ready by dinner time.

2. Mold the Pizza Skulls

Carefully stretch and press the dough into each cavity of the skull baking pan, ensuring it takes on the shape without tearing (Using a 1/2 slice of provolone in the base of the skull helps it to form to shape, and helps prevent it from getting too soggy from the sauce).

3. Layer the Filling & Seal the Skulls

After placing your 1/2 slice of provolone into your pizza skull, add a layer of sauce, followed by a layer of pepperoni, more sauce, shredded mozzarella, even more sauce, parmesan, more saucy-sauce, and finish it off with another 1/2 slice of provolone. Fold in the sides of the dough, followed by tucking in the top and bottom, to make sure your pizza skull fits inside the mold cavity. You can layer these following the instructions above, or however you’d like! Feel free to add more cheese, less sauce, sausage instead of pepperoni . . . the customization for your pizza skull is endless!

4. Bake to Deadly Delicious Perfection

With anticipation building, slide the pan into a 425 F oven and allow the heat to work its magic (for 25-30 minutes), turning the dough golden and melting the cheese into gooey perfection.

So, fearless foodies, as the night darkens and shadows grow longer, take a bite into the unknown with Pizza Skulls that are as thrilling to look at as they are to devour. It’s a horror film on a plate, where every bite makes your tastebuds dance and your heart race with delight. This Halloween season, let the Roller Coaster Kitchen be your guide through the twisted, tantalizing world of Universal Halloween Horror Nights favorites. Until then, happy haunting and even happier eating!
