Kool-Aid Pickle Recipe | A Sweet and Tangy Delight

As the summer season comes around, there’s nothing quite like biting into a refreshingly sweet and tangy treat! And that’s exactly what Kool-Aid Pickles are! A Southern culinary quirk that’s as vibrant in flavor as it is in color, these are sure to become one of your new summer favorites. Known colloquially as ‘Koolickles’, these pickles combine the sweetness of sugar, the fruity blast from Kool-Aid, and the classic sourness of pickle juice to create a snack that’s sure to tickle your taste buds and add a pop of color to your summer spread.

The beauty of Kool-Aid Pickles lies in their simplicity and the shock of their neon hues. As they soak in the Kool-Aid mixture, they transform into a visual spectacle that’s as much a conversation starter as it is a palate pleaser. Perfect for summer picnics, backyard barbecues, or just a fun kitchen experiment with the kids, Kool-Aid Pickles are the embodiment of summer’s playful spirit.

Sunny Season Cookware: Essential Equipment for Kool-Aid Pickles:

Before we dive into the making of these colorful treats, ensure your kitchen is equipped with the right tools. Here’s what you’ll need:

Mixing Bowls: If you don’t mind staining your plastic bowls, then they will work fine. However, we recommend using a glass bowl. The Superior Glass Mixing Bowl Set on Amazon comes with thousands of great reviews and lids for the bowls! (We use these in our videos!)

A Good Whisk: Used to mix the kool-aid packet and sugar into the pickle juice, so you don’t end up with weird crystalized lumps. Any whisk will do, but these Silicone Whisks from Amazon can also be used inside your metal pans!

A Funnel: Unless you REALLY want to make a mess, I’d use a funnel to help you pour that juice back into the pickle jar! With this Silicone Collapsible Funnel Set from Amazon, you get 4 flexible easy to clean funnels that don’t hog your kitchen space.

These tools not only make the process cleaner and easier, but also ensure you’re ready for any kitchen challenge this summer!

Koolickle Instructions:

  1. Drain & Save: Begin by draining the pickle brine into a bowl, but don’t discard it! You’ll need it soon.
  2. Mix Magic: In your mixing bowl, whisk together the Kool-Aid packet, sugar, and pickle juice until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  3. Brine Blend: Add enough of the kool-aid pickle juice mixture back to the jar so that the pickles are completely covered.
  4. Shake & Store: Put the lid back on your pickle jar and shake it up! Put the pickles into the fridge and refrigerate for at least a week, giving the jar a gentle shake each day to distribute the juice.
  5. Serve & Enjoy: After a week, your Kool-Aid pickles will be ready to enjoy! Serve them cold as a unique snack or as a side dish to your favorite summer meals. (P.S, they are GREAT on hot dogs! Kind of like a sweet hot dog relish).

As you embark on this culinary adventure, remember that Kool-Aid Pickles are more than just a treat—they’re an experience! Each bite is a burst of summer, an edible embodiment of the season’s energy. So set up your kitchen, and get ready to create the most vividly delicious snack on the block!
